Data verified in-game, as of 2026-10-10, by inspecting the official public game-client definitions. The current client contains all nine entries. Store marketing also describes nine skills, but does not provide enough detail to verify individual training actions. We review sources weekly; see our dated verification and update notes for how conflicting descriptions are handled.
Choose a requirement before choosing a training action
Start with the activity you want to unlock. If a coding gig requires Coding 2, improving Music will not move that requirement forward. Likewise, a funny action name does not prove it trains Charisma: Practise Stand-up explicitly trains Comedy. Read the skill attached to the action instead of guessing from its animation or theme.
For careers, use the jobs and salary requirements guide to identify the next relevant threshold. Meeting a skill requirement is only one part of progression; it does not replace applying, attending work or meeting the other conditions displayed by the game. Stop and recheck the career screen when you reach a requirement. Training far past the next useful threshold can delay income you need immediately.
A sensible first-day plan is one income goal and one supporting skill. That is a planning recommendation, not a hidden game rule. Trying to develop all nine at once spreads your available time across unrelated unlocks. Keep room for eating, washing, sleeping and travel; the beginner walkthrough explains how those needs compete with work and practice.
Use short sessions when your schedule is tight
The verified actions have very different durations. Sing Afrobeats and Practise Dance Moves each take 30 game minutes. Practise Stand-up takes 40; Practice Coding takes 120. A short gap before work can fit a dance session more comfortably than a coding session, provided you still have enough energy and time to get where you need to be.
Cooking can solve two problems together. Cook Jollof trains Cooking while restoring hunger, but it consumes ingredients. Indomie & Egg is a separate 15-minute cooking action using Indomie and an egg. Fry Dodo takes 25 minutes and uses plantain and oil. These are different recipes with different benefits, so do not assume that the shortest recipe gives the largest amount of training.
Fitness needs a recovery budget. Jog Round the Track has explicit energy and hygiene costs. If you train immediately before work, leave time to restore those needs. Buying a more expensive home will not automatically fix poor scheduling; consult the housing and rent comparison before committing your reserve to a move just to support a training routine.
Paid skill actions: check the unlock and the whole trip
These thresholds come from the same current client. They are useful milestones, not a ranking of guaranteed profit. Listed durations exclude travel and recovery. Availability can also depend on where you are and whether required equipment or power is available.
| Action | Skill required | In-game minutes | Additional consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelance Gig, home action | Coding 2 | 180 | A different action from the shorter Yaba Hub gig |
| Freelance Gig, Yaba Hub | Coding 2 | 120 | Requires being at Yaba Hub |
| Paid Skit for a Brand | Comedy 3 | 90 | Explicitly requires power |
| Edit & Sell Photos | Photography 3 | 90 | Explicitly requires power |
| Paid Beach Photoshoot | Photography 4 | 90 | Located at Elegushi |
| Perform at Comedy Night | Comedy 3 | 60 | Located at Freedom Park |
The two Freelance Gig entries illustrate why action names alone can mislead. Their durations and earning formulas differ. Check the location and current action details before comparing them. This guide deliberately does not present either as a universal best earner: a trip can add fares and time that a simple payout screenshot leaves out.
For a paid activity, compare money remaining after transport and recovery with the time committed. Keep rent and food money separate from any training budget. The money-making and budgeting guide provides the wider framework; skill progression is useful when it creates an option you can afford to use repeatedly.
Traits that support a skill plan
Six starting traits have explicit skill-growth multipliers in the current definitions. Foodie supports Cooking; Smooth Talker supports Charisma; Gym Rat supports Fitness; Tech Bro or Sis supports Coding; Musical supports Music; Hustler supports Hustle. There is no dedicated Dance, Comedy or Photography growth trait among these ten starting traits.
That does not make the remaining three skills unusable. It means you should not invent a matching trait or assume that Owambe Spirit accelerates Dance training simply because it rewards dancing with extra enjoyment. See the complete traits and aspirations table for the distinction between skill growth, need decay and fun bonuses.
Fast Learner appears separately in the reward catalogue, where its description says all skills grow 20% faster. It is not an eleventh starting trait. Also avoid reading an internal training-rate value as “levels gained per click”: action rates, durations and character modifiers are separate pieces of the system. We do not publish a fixed clicks-to-level chart without a verified calculation for the full progression formula.
Frequently asked questions
How many skills are in Lagos Life?
The verified current client lists nine: Cooking, Charisma, Fitness, Coding, Music, Hustle, Dance, Comedy and Photography. These are the skill names, not career categories or personality traits. Each can be developed through relevant actions; the action table above gives a concrete starting point for every skill.
What is the best skill to level first?
Choose the skill required by your next affordable job or activity. Coding is relevant to coding gigs, while Comedy and Photography unlock their own paid actions. There is no single verified best choice for every save because cash, needs, location and your existing progress change the practical decision.
Does practising a skill always give a whole level?
No fixed one-action-one-level promise is supported by the action data. Actions have their own training rates and durations, and some traits affect skill growth. Watch your actual progress and recheck the required threshold instead of treating a practice button as a guaranteed level-up.
Do I need a trait to learn Coding or Music?
The verified practice actions are not described as exclusive to Tech Bro or Sis or Musical. Those traits provide growth advantages for their matching skills. Choose them for a compatible plan, but distinguish faster growth from permission to start learning the skill at all.
Why is a paid skill action unavailable?
First check the skill threshold, then its location and any power requirement. Paid Skit for a Brand and Edit & Sell Photos explicitly require power; the beach photoshoot belongs to Elegushi. Read the current in-game restriction message before spending money on an item or travelling somewhere else.
